Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says Government has embarked on reforms to compel bulk transporters of various categories of cargo to transport a minimum of 30 percent by railway.

Mr. Mushimba says the reforms will promote public and private partnership between Zambia Railway operators in the Southern Africa Development Community SADC region such as Transnet.

Speaking during the inaugural session of board of directors of Zambia railways limited in Lusaka today, Mr. Mushimba also said other reforms include the creation of the of a railway development agency to facilitate the separation of railway infrastructure development and maintenance from the railway operations.

Mr. Mushimba added that he expects the Board members to work hard and represent the government and shareholders’ interests in the transformation process for Zambia Railway Limited.
